A few items about BT Broadband:

BT Hubs

Image
1.0 - 1.5

I had the original 1.0 Hub from when Broadband went 8Mb.
I had the 1.0 Hub for a fare few years, If you are not aware the hubs automaticaly download firmware updates.

Well they have partialy screwed over the 1.0 and 1.5 hubs.
They are slow, sometimes unresponsive, wireless can drop, Application Sharing is bugged. Net management is screwey - Causes problems with connecting to games...

2.0 - 2.5

However after pointing out that I would cancel all my services if the thing wasnt replaced asap, they dispatched a shiney new 2.5 Black Hub and a Hub Phone as the 1.0 white phone was slow, buggy and crashed if the Loud Speaker button was pressed.

The new hub is very very fast, highly responsive, The interface is much better, it has a light informing you of firmware updates in progress and only does this very late at night apparently, so no more random interuprtions, especially if your in a clan match.
Application shareing seems to work well, the interface is very fast, never hangs or slows.
BT / Thompson (Manufacturers) have also come to some sence and has not distributed any stupid software full of Yahoo crap as it does simply plug in and just work with no configuration required as a router should do.

The new hub phone has ace sound quality and supports High Def calls for HD-Voip to HD-Voip, the menus are wey better, faster, bigger buttons and the phone book has been improved allowing you to add, Home, Home Mobile, Work, Work Mobile for a single contact plus you can add more if you want should any one person have more than 4 telephone numbers for some strange reason.

GamePlay Verdict 2.5 HUB:
- It Works!
Connections!
Will this let me play Supreme Commander tonight without Himatchi? - We will see later.
YES!, Works perfectly fine! - Can play SUPCOM and host HL1/2 servers.

BT Accelerator. I-Plate (Faster Braodband?)
If you are BT Broadband customer you can get this for free, Just pay for postage charged to your BT Bill. Else its Just under £8.
BT Shop - I-Plate

This is some sort of filter that can give you a boost to your broadband speeds, You take the front cover off your phone master socket, plug in and screw on this I-Plate and reattach the cover to the I-Plate, and plug your stuff back in (Includeing your Microfilter, You still use this!)

There is a quick "Will this work for you" section you should check out first before you buy.
Will a BT Broadband Accelerator work for you?

I received this today and installed, Apparently you have to wait 24 hours or so before your speed is recalculated.
Currently I get:
Downstream - 7,616 Kbps
Upstream - 448 Kbps

This is an accurate report as well, Infact I can get 7.8 on some downloads.
I will post the Verdict on Saturday if the speeds change.
For me there was no change in speed, i am almost next door to the exchange afterall

20Mb broadband - No extra Cost
They are rolling out now and at no extra cost, they dont offer faster as they claim it is just not quite majoritly possible to get anymore than that like those that offer 24Mb, you wont get it.
Your individual line has to be upgraded as well as the local exchange so it will take some time before it gets to everyone and your home line has to be upgraded on request if your exchange has already been upgraded, they wont just do it willy nilly you have got to ask, simply cause of volume.

Find out more: See how fast you can go!
You may be able to find out when you can expect it if you dont have it already.
If it says nothing much then dont expect it too soon, say anywhere upto Mid 2011 if you are unlucky.

BT has been rolling out up to 20Mb broadband out across the UK since 2008. 40% of the country can already receive this faster speed, with 55% expected by March 2010. Your local telephone exchange needs to be upgraded for you to get up to 20Mb. Unlike other providers, we don't charge you more to go faster - we offer our top speed across all our broadband options, at no extra cost. The speed you can expect will still depend on your line and distance from the exchange.

If up to 20Mb broadband is already available in your area, then you will get it with any new BT Total Broadband Option.

Why is BT offering up to 20Mb, when I've seen providers offering 24Mb?
We always offer you the best speed available on your line. From our tests, we've found that only a tiny number of customers can actually get 24Mb. Other ADSL broadband providers are similarly affected by the same factors that determine broadband speed so we would encourage you get an individual speed estimate from any ISP you consider before purchasing.

BT Broadband has a fair connection. I actually get logged sometimes. But it's OK because connection comes back again.

I'm using talk talk at the moment as its the on LLC operator from my exchange and its a lot cheaper than BT.

TalkTalk customer support is shocking as most lack real technical know how so have to speak to the second line support to get anything done.

Talk Talk peed me off cause they kept asking me if i want the Free broadband repeatedly.
I kept saying no Cause of the latency performace, None of the agents know what latency/ping/ms response times are.
Dumb fuckers, its been most important thing now since 1 meg broadband
